Bridge in Borne blastcleaned with Eurogrit

Abrasive blast cleaning with Eurogrit coal slag gritThe bridge between Born and Buchten in Limburg is undergoing a facelift. Between 1 March and 15 July, 2012, the bridge will be cleaned, rust will be removed and it will be repainted, reports newspaper “de Limburger” in its February 28, 2012 edition.

For local residents the refurbishment may lead inconvenience in the form of noise of sanders, blast cleaning machines, compressors and generators. The work locally also leads to an increase in freight traffic in the vicinity of the bridge. The work will mainly take place between 07.00 and 18.00. At times it is necessary to work at night. The work is performed by ProRail. The costs of € 680.000, - are paid by the municipality of Sittard-Geleen. The expectation is that the life of the bridge after the refurbishment is extended again by twenty years. The refurbishment will be on the sides of the bridge along both bicycle paths. The road section will only be done when the asphalt layer has to be renewed, which is likely to happen only within a few years time. The disruption to traffic is therefore now likely to remain fairly limited.

The blasting and painting activities are performed by De Koning Straal- en Schilderwerken BV. The first delivery of Eurogrit aluminum silicate abrasive (coal slag grit) took place on 18 April 2012.
