In june 2011 The GRYPHON A FPSO (Floating Production, Storage & Offloading Unit) from A.P. Moller- Group in Copenhagen came in at Damen Schipyards in Schiedam. The vessel occured heavy storm damage in February of this year at it's anchorage place at the Gryphon Terminal (on the border of the English and the Norwegian part of the North Sea). The vessel was in operation here since 1993.
The vessel was built in Ferrol (Spain) in 1993 and is 258 x 41 meter. It sails under the flag of the Isle of Man with registration port Douglas, GT 66830 en Dwt 94032.
The vessel is being repaired at Damen Shiprepair in Schiedam and is getting a complete overhaul.
Among others the ballast- and storage tanks are being blast cleaned and coated.
This part of the project is being done by Spanish contractor Indasa. Eurogrit BV supplies the blast cleaning abrasives for this (for Dutch standards) megaproject. In cooperation with transport company De Bruyn, 3 large storage silos have been placed inside the dock, each with a capacity of more than 50 tons of abrasive ensuring availablilty of blasting grit at the shipyard at all times.
The vessel is expected to return to its anchorage place at Gryphon Terminal during the course of 2012.
